So what is a collectable camera ? If you're just starting out, the old German, Japanese, French and UK equipment is a safe and profitable bet. Nothing electronic or plastic is worth collecting, as time and the laws of physics will kill them.
This FX3 (the export model of the FX2) was made for a brief time between 1956 and 1958 in east Germany by the K.W. factory, it came with a number of M42 lenses, the early aluminum bodied Tessa is particularly collectable.
The camera is a hefty brute and demands time and knowledge on your part to get a picture out of it, it has a couple of advantages in that the front element is set way back in the barrel such that incipient flare doesn't occur giving a high contrast print, the other advantage is that it will keep going for a long time, note the rotating speed dial which is a direct link to the range finder cameras. If you Google this camera you will find tons of references showing that it is actively collected.
Finally, look at the case quality, molded leather with red felt lining, a measure perhaps of how proud they were on making a fine camera - compare this to the Canon "A" series biodegradable paper mâché efforts. They should be ashamed of themselves.
